Black & White

Black and white is right on trend, and we are starting to see some beautifully creative ways to replace colour with these stylish hues. They are equally as eye catching, but the classic, monochrome design is a hard look to beat.

Living on an island, we tend to select our design themes around the blues, greens and ocean colours we associate our amazing ocean side environment with. The use of black and white, however, can create an equally stunning and dramatic décor statement that contrasts and compliments the ocean views, bright blue skies and tropical plants we are lucky to see here in Thailand.

Using black accents in your design adds a grounding style that anchors and adds sophistication to a room.  Black accessories, light fixtures, trims, paint, or furniture will help to catch the eye and sharpen any decorating scheme. To create a more relaxed vibe from the modern city style apartment look, pair black with soft whites, timbers, neutrals and textures.

Monochromatic decorating gives a fresh, clean, and unquestionably sophisticated and elegant look to any room. From white floorboards and rafters teamed with black accessories, to statement furniture items or beautiful plant pots - black and white is a very classy design aesthetic that won’t disappoint. Working with walls painted stark whiteor a soft ivory also serves as the perfect backdrop for black-framed photographs, prints, and other artwork.

Crisp white bed linens are also perfect for the bedroom. Add black and white striped throws, patterned pillows, a statement black chair or black decorative cushions to add some extra detail to a room.  When choosing fabrics and feature items, choose textures like weaves, crochet ormacramé, and natural fabrics blends to add a subtle and soft edge to the look to maintain that island home feel.

Creating a striking table setting for your dining space and entertainments areas can also be achieved by selecting black and white ceramics and crockery, gorgeous serving bowls, textured table linens and even black detailed cutlery. There are so many ways to accessories and create an eye catching space using this simple, yet sophisticated and very effective colour scheme.
